First Eucharist/Reconciliation Preparation

Preparation for the Sacraments of First Eucharist and First Reconciliation is a two-year program traditionally beginning in the 1st grade and ending in the 2nd grade year with the reception of both sacraments.  Students receive instruction on both the topics of Reconciliation and Eucharist as well as continuous Catholic education for their grade level.

Requirements:  Children preparing for the sacraments must attend the scheduled classes as well the First Communion Retreat with their families. Parents of children in the 2nd year of preparation for the sacraments are required to attend parent education classes.

Confirmation

Preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation is a 3 year program beginning in the freshman year. To receive the sacrament a teen must be 16 years old and/or be in their junior year of high school.

Requirements: All Confirmation students must attend the scheduled classes, complete 30 hours of community service (10 a year), and attend given retreats. Finally, before receiving the sacrament each student will indicate their desire to receive the sacrament through an exit interview conducted by the confirmation coordinator.

Sponsors: All students must choose a sponsor for Confirmation. A sponsor should be chosen as early in the program as possible so that they can part of the spiritual formation of the student.  It is the role of the sponsor to provide spiritual support both before and after reception of the sacrament. In order to be a sponsor for Confirmation the sponsor must fulfill the conditions stated in Canon 874:

  1. 16 years old or older
  2. A Catholic who has received the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation, and if married the sacrament of marriage
  3. They are a practicing Catholic living out the faith
  4. Not the father or mother of the child being confirmed

Elementary Catechesis

Children enrolled in the elementary catechesis program receive continuous religious education geared towards their grade level and building on the instruction given the previous year. Themes covered in each grade level are the following:

1st grade: God’s Love for Us

2nd grade: Jesus shares God’s Life

3rd grade: We are the Church

4th grade: God’s Law Guides Us (10 Commandments)

5th grade: We Meet Jesus in the Sacraments

The EDGE

The EDGE is a Catholic middle school youth ministry for early adolescents in grades six, seven and eight. The EDGE is designed to meet the educational, spiritual, emotional, and social needs of young adolescents. The EDGE combines the best parts of LIFE TEEN for middle school.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

This rite is for adults seeking to discern converting to the Catholic faith leading to sacramental initiation through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, celebrated at the Easter Vigil service.  Those discerning the faith are supported by a sponsor that journeys with them during the process.

Christian Initiation of Children (CIC)

This program is for children between the ages of 7 and 17 seeking Baptism in the Catholic Church or desiring to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. It is a two-year sacramental preparation program.

Requirements:  Children preparing for the sacraments must attend the scheduled classes as well as participate in the rites conducted during the 2nd year of the program. Parents of children in the 2nd year of preparation for the sacraments are required to attend parent education classes.
